5 Things to do in Isla Mujeres
Have you ever experienced the luxury of taking a vacation from your vacation?
This delightful novelty can soon become your reality on your holiday to Cancun. Take a mini-vacation to the stunning Isla Mujeres, right in the middle of your vacation!
This lovely island is just a 15 minute ferry ride from Cancun, making it the perfect destination for a day trip or an overnight stay! What could there possibly be to do on such a tiny island, we hear you ask?
Well, the answer is – more things than you could possibly imagine! Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie, or you’re all about the beach, there is a wide variety on the best things to do in Isla Mujeres. Here are some of our favorites.
Explore the island on a golf cart
Possibly the best way to see all the glorious sights of Isla Mujeres is to rent a golf cart for the day and head out on a self-guided tour!
This is a great way of seeing the whole island in one day. Means you can stop to take in the panoramic views whenever you please!
We recommend renting your golf cart from Indios Golf Carts and downloading the interactive Isla Mujeres map from MapChick, so you can guide yourself to all the coolest locations on the island!
Scuba dive at the MUSA
MUSA Underwater is a truly unique museum and offers a scuba diving experience like no other!
Over 500 sculptures have been carefully placed far below the surface just off the coast of the island, offering an alternative diving experience the nearby coral reefs, which are endangered. These fascinating (and slightly spooky) sculptures, which include people, houses and cars, have become a new habitat for local marine life.
Don’t forget your underwater camera!
Take a walk along Punta Sur
Punta Sur is an ocean side reserve at the southern tip of the island and is the perfect place to take in a breathtakingly beautiful sunrise, if you can get there early enough!
Decorated intermittently with artistic metal sculptures, these winding coastal paths provide sensational and dramatic views of the cliffs, tide and surrounding landscape all day, every day.
Not to be missed!
Pay a visit to El Meco
If you’re eager to delve deeper into the Mayan history of this area, check out the small El Meco site on Isla Mujeres.
While perhaps not as visually impressive as the great pyramids of Chichen Itza or Teotihuacan, this archaeological site is nonetheless a mysterious marvel, and you’ll all be delighted by the high population of iguanas that now call El Meco their home!
Relax and recharge at
Playa del Norte
This beach is just ten minutes from the ferry pier, with a long stretch of shallow, calm water, making it safe and ideal if you’re vacationing with your kids!
Stretch out and sunbathe on the soft, white sands, or take a dip in the warm, crystal clear water and spot a variety of colorful fish!
